Hamsters living in the wild naturally do not have a pretty toilet house. For the purpose of defecating as well as urinating, there is a toilet chamber in the hamster's burrow, which extends deep below the surface of the earth, in addition to the pantry and the nesting chamber. This is used exclusively for the purpose of regular urination. This is very important to the rodents, because they are clean animals.
First of all, the toilet should occupy a fixed place in the cage, which must be maintained at all costs. The rodents are extremely clean and quickly get used to this place. If you have filled the toilet with sand, the rodent may use it as a sand bath. If you want to prevent this, place a suitable sand bath in the enclosure and replace the sand in the toilet with litter. You can also fill in sand in the lower area and cover it with bedding.
Basically, the hamster toilet should be cleaned daily. This is not difficult, as you can remove it from the cage in its entirety, empty it out and fill it with new material. Once a week, a basic cleaning should be done and if you notice that your hamster is sick, it is also a good idea to disinfect the toilet.
