What is the difference between complete feed, straight feed and supplement feed?

These terms play a central role in dog nutrition. Therefore, here is a compact and understandable definition of these terms:

Complete feed: a feed with this designation is sufficient alone to meet the nutrient and energy needs of the dog. It is composed of several individual feeds.

Most dry and wet foods are complete feeds and facilitate the feeding of the dog according to its species and needs.

Single feed:: Single feed: A well-known example of single feed is e.g. rice flakes or dried beef rumen. A straight feed is characterized by the fact that it consists of only one ingredient.

IMPORTANT: A single ingredient feed, in contrast to a complete feed, is NOT sufficient to feed the dog according to its needs. The consequences are deficiency symptoms up to diseases. However, with the right management and know-how as well as the appropriate supplementary products, individual menus can be put together for the dog.

Supplementary feed: A supplementary feed or compound feed usually consists of several individual feedstuffs. A sole administration of these feeds is therefore not sufficient for the dog's needs.
