bogadent® PLAQUE-STOP is a single feed in the form of a homogenised powder for the maintenance of normal oral hygiene in dogs. Based on the seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum our 100% natural food powder helps to reduce tartar build-up and can contribute to maintaining healthy gums and fresh breath.

Healthy teeth are vital for dogs and cats! Nevertheless, diseases of teeth and gums are very common in our four-legged friends. This is also shown by scientific studies:
"80% of all 3-year-old dogs suffer from a disease of the teeth or gums!"

Diseases of the teeth and the periodontium are frequent reasons for a visit to the vet. Depending on the extent of the dental disease, a surgical intervention may have to be performed.
The necessary anaesthesia is very stressful for your dog or cat and can lead to complications.

A prerequisite for the formation of tartar is plaque. This is a biofilm that consists of food residues as well as bacteria and their metabolic products and is deposited on the teeth. If plaque is not removed regularly, it hardens due to the minerals contained in saliva and becomes solid tartar. This leads to inflammation and recession of the gums, exposure of tooth necks and damage to the periodontium - periodontosis.

Further progression of inflammation and damage leads to bone loss (osteolysis), tooth loosening and eventually tooth loss. These pathological changes are extremely painful for your pet. They affect the quality of life and can lead to behavioural problems and changes in eating behaviour.

How do you notice that your pet is suffering from dental problems?
Bad breath is often the first sign. This can be caused by the food. However, if the bad breath persists despite a change of food, an inflammation of the gums is often the cause. Check your dog's teeth regularly by carefully lifting the lips. Plaque and tartar are increasingly deposited on the back molars and canines. If the gum line is reddened and already bleeds when touched, the inflammation is advanced and a visit to the vet is highly recommended.

How can you protect your pet from dental problems?
Chewing snacks and chews help to remove plaque. But this alone is not enough! Thorough and efficient cleaning of the teeth is only possible with a toothbrush or finger brush. Because, just like for us humans, daily brushing of your dog's teeth is the most important basis for a healthy set of teeth.
