What does trimming mean?

Trimming is the process of plucking dead hairs from the coat. The trimming knife is used for this purpose.

Especially dog breeds with rough coats, such as terriers, but also schnauzers, rough-haired dachshunds and cocker spaniels are trimmed. The texture of the coat makes it more robust and water-repellent. A normal coat change no longer takes place in the breeds mentioned. The dead top coat is removed to prevent skin irritation and eczema and to stimulate coat growth. Dogs with such a coat condition should be trimmed every 2-4 months.
